John Blow, Chaconne in G major

Having just become a British citizen, Handel received the commission in 1727 to compose several anthems for the coronation of George II. He had likely never imagined that he would one day write music for such a solemn occasion - so he seized the opportunity to the fullest and created a musical fireworks display of unprecedented opulence.
The RIAS Chamber Choir and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin lend their artistry to these sparkling works - some of which are still performed at every coronation today!
