A. Corelli
Concerti grossi op. 6, 1-6
At the beginning of the 18th century, all of Europe was gripped by the concerti grossi fever. At that time, all roads led to Rome, where Arcangelo Corelli, with his Op. 6 collection of concertos, ushered in a new era of instrumental music. Corelli’s concertos set a small group of players against a larger one and rely entirely on the elegance and warmth of the string sound. Even today, they amaze listeners with their remarkable tonal differentiation and the close interweaving of all the string parts.
