At the heart of the new album is Telemann’s Ino - a gripping, highly dramatic cantata drawn from the myths of classical antiquity. It tells the story of a desperate woman who tries to save herself and her son from her husband, who has gone mad, ultimately throwing herself from a cliff and being transformed into a goddess.
Telemann composed the extraordinarily rich and colorful music for Ino two years before his death. The album also presents other late works, all of which showcase the remarkable creativity and productivity of the then 84‑year‑old composer.
With Christina Landshamer, an ideal interpreter takes on the role of Ino - a role that also exerts great fascination on the singer herself:
“Interpreting Ino vocally - a part already conceived with great virtuosity - with its cascades of emotion and contrasting spheres is a true challenge. In the shortest span of time, highly dramatic events filled with peaks of tension and unexpected twists follow one another. This is grand opera, which Telemann skillfully underpins with incredibly rich affects, moods, and colors.”
