Miriways

Opera by Georg Philipp Telemann

A captivating live recording!

This little‑known yet musically highly colorful work from 1728 is a drama of love, duty, and integrity. It is based on political events of the time in Afghanistan and Persia, which made headlines in European newspapers and illustrate the eighteenth century’s fascination with the Orient.

The opera returned to the city of its creation for the first time during the 2017 Hamburg Telemann Festival, where it was greeted with cheers and spontaneous applause after several scenes.
