Antje Geusen

Violoncello

Antje Geusen, born in Gelsenkirchen, initially studied modern cello at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. She became spontaneously enthusiastic about historical playing techniques during a masterclass with Hidemi Suzuki, prompting her to move to The Hague to study Baroque cello with him and Lidewij Scheifes, as well as modern cello with gut strings. Masterclasses with Anner Bylsma provided further inspiring impulses.

After her studies, her focus was initially on Baroque chamber music. She soon became principal cellist of Cappella Coloniensis and cellist of the Schuppanzigh String Quartet (on historical instruments) and began performing with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. Since 1996, she has been a permanent member of the ensemble.

As a guest, she performs with various ensembles such as Bach Collegium Japan and Das kleine Konzert (Hermann Max), as well as diverse chamber music groups.

From 1994 to 2000, she held a teaching position at the University of Potsdam. In recent years, alongside her orchestral work with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Antje Geusen has increasingly focused on teaching the Cantienica Method, a posture training particularly suitable for musicians.
