Xenia Löffler

Oboe

Xenia Löffler has dedicated herself to exploring the fascinatingly diverse oboe repertoire from its beginnings through to the 19th century. She delights audiences with rediscoveries, which she presents in concerts and recordings.

Her stylistic sensitivity, vital playing, and unmistakable tone make Xenia Löffler one of the leading international interpreters of the historical oboe. Immediately after completing her studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, she was appointed principal oboist by the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and has since been a permanent member of the ensemble, with which she regularly appears as a soloist in the world’s most renowned concert halls.

The oboe’s many possibilities - within the orchestra, as a solo instrument, or as a chamber music partner with outstanding colleagues - continue to fascinate her as a performer. Numerous CDs have been released in the meantime, on which Xenia Löffler can be heard in these diverse roles.

In addition to the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, her long-standing partners in these recordings include the Batzdorfer Hofkapelle and many other ensembles with which she maintains close artistic ties. Particularly formative were the many years of shared music-making with the Amphion Wind Octet, which she co-founded, and her participation in Sir John Eliot Gardiner’s Bach Cantata Pilgrimage

Passing on her experience to the younger generation of oboists is especially important to Xenia Löffler. She is regularly invited by international music universities to teach and give master classes. Since 2018, she has served as artistic director of the Neuburg an der Donau Summer Academy. She holds a professorship in historical oboes at the Universität der Künste in Berlin.
