Concerti grossi op. 3

With the recording of Handel’s Concerti grossi Op. 3, this is the third and final CD in our Handel trilogy on the Pentatone label:

Music for a royal wedding - this is Handel’s splendid collection of Concerti grossi Op. 3. They were performed in 1734 on the occasion of the marriage of Princess Anne, daughter of King George II, to William IV, Prince of Orange. Handel’s first major collection of instrumental music sparkles with melodic freshness and elegance. In contrast to the later Concerti grossi Op. 6, Op. 3 also features oboes and flutes, adding distinctive tonal colors.
