G.Ph. Telemann
Pimpinone
The title character of this mini‑opera is a wealthy old codger who falls head over heels in love with his maid, Vespetta. But the young and flirtatious Vespetta quickly becomes the secret heroine of this chamber comedy. For once she has maneuvered him into marriage, Pimpinone is no longer master of his own house… Telemann’s music turns it all into a delightfully entertaining comedy.
On 14 March 2020, the production of Telemann’s comic opera was scheduled to celebrate its staged premiere at the Magdeburg Telemann Festival Days.
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, rehearsals had to be halted shortly beforehand. With a recording, the orchestra was fortunately able to save the project and preserve it on CD.
