BBC 3 Record Review

»Herausragendes Doppelalbum … Alles ist detailverliebt, aber mit so großer Selbstverständlichkeit, dass man beim Hören kaum nachkommt: So sehr jagt ein Klangwunder das nächste, keine Wiederholung ist gleich.«

NDR Kultur

Welt am Sonntag

»Frische, Verve und Präzision gleichermaßen«

Have a listen here:

The Moravian-Austrian composer, conductor, and violinist - today unjustly forgotten - was highly esteemed by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. His opera Oberon, King of the Elves even served as a model for Mozart’s Magic Flute. This album features the Overture to the opera as well as Wranitzky’s “Grande sinfonie caractéristique.” The symphony, subtitled La Paix, is a gripping work that illustrates the wars following the French Revolution and recalls the marches and battle music of the era.

Other symphonies included in the recording are the festive and heroic Symphony in D major, Op. 36, and the Symphony in D minor, “La Tempesta,” a homage to the forces of nature.

The double album was recorded in Berlin’s Jesus-Christus-Kirche. The production was made possible in particular through the support of the many contributors to our crowdfunding campaign “The Other Viennese Classics: Paul Wranitzky” as well as the Friends and Patrons of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin.
