Gergely Bodoky was born in Budapest in 1973 and completed his studies in Munich with Paul Meisen and András Adorján. He regularly attended masterclasses with Aurèle Nicolet. He is a multiple prizewinner at international competitions such as the ARD International Music Competition and the International Flute Competition in Kobe, Japan.
After one year as principal flutist of the Hungarian National Philharmonic, Gergely Bodoky moved to the same position with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin. In 2015, he was a member of the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival. Beginning in 1999, he devoted himself intensively to performing on historical instruments, initially studying with Benedek Csalog in Leipzig and attending masterclasses with Barthold Kuijken and Karl Kaiser. From 2009 onward, he studied with Christoph Huntgeburth at the Universität der Künste Berlin, which provided decisive musical impulses and led to a regular collaboration with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. Since 2025, Gergely Bodoky has served as the ensemble’s principal flutist, succeeding Christoph Huntgeburth.
He has a strong interest in the history and construction of historical instruments. Under the guidance of the flute maker Stefan Beck, he was able to build one of his Baroque transverse flutes himself in Beck’s workshop.
