Thomas Graewe studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler until 1984. That same year, he began his first professional engagement at the Landestheater Eisenach as assistant first concertmaster. In 1989, he moved to the Schwerin Philharmonic, which appointed him to the same position. 

From 1993 to 1997, Thomas Graewe served as concertmaster of Ensemble Berlin Baroque. During this period, he began to engage intensively with early music, establishing contacts with conductors including Ton Koopman, Robert Hill, and Reinhard Goebel, whose masterclasses he attended. 

Thomas Graewe was a founding member of Concerto Brandenburg and served as its concertmaster until 2002. Since 1995, he has developed a close relationship with the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, becoming a permanent member in 2000. This long-standing collaboration has taken him regularly to numerous important music centers at home and abroad.
